CAMP GALLEGO, Tubod, Lanao del Norte — A routine police checkpoint turned into a major anti-smuggling victory after personnel of the Linamon Municipal Police Station intercepted an estimated ₱735,200 worth of smuggled cigarettes on Friday, November 15, 2025, in Barangay Poblacion, Linamon.

Police said officers manning the checkpoint in Purok 7 flagged down two vehicles — a gray Mitsubishi Mirage driven by a 32-year-old resident of San Roque, Zamboanga City, and a red Toyota Yaris driven by a 24-year-old resident of Bawisan, Parang, Sulu. During inspection, authorities immediately spotted several sacks of suspected smuggled cigarettes in plain view inside both vehicles.

The two drivers reportedly failed to present any documents proving the legality or origin of the goods. Both vehicles were traveling from Matungao toward Poblacion, Linamon, at the time of interception.

A total of 939 reams of Cannon Menthol 100s were seized — 499 reams from the Mitsubishi Mirage and 440 reams from the Toyota Yaris — with a combined market value estimated at ₱735,200.

The suspects, along with the vehicles, are now under the custody of Linamon MPS for further investigation and documentation. The confiscated contraband will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Iligan City for proper disposition.

Acting Provincial Director PCOL Leo De Leon Sua praised the operatives for the successful operation, highlighting the impact of intensified checkpoint measures.

“This successful interdiction is a direct result of our heightened vigilance and strategic operations. LDNPPO remains unwavering in its commitment to combat illegal activities that threaten our community’s security and economy,” he said.

Authorities reaffirmed that operations against cigarette smuggling and other illicit trade will continue as part of efforts to safeguard local markets and strengthen law enforcement presence across Lanao del Norte.
