Tubod, Lanao del Norte – A joint anti-smuggling operation led by the Maritime Group, in coordination with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Tubod Municipal Police Station (MPS), resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of over 150 reams of untaxed cigarettes on January 25, 2025.
The operation, conducted at the public market in Barangay Malingao between 1:10 PM and 1:35 PM, targeted illegal cigarette sales. Authorities caught the suspects in possession of cigarette brands including New Far Filter, Fort Menthol, and Cannon Menthol, with a total estimated value of ₱80,150.00.
The suspects were found violating Republic Act 8424, specifically Sections 263 (Unlawful Possession or Removal of Articles Subject to Excise Tax Without Payment of the Tax) and 265 (Offenses Relating to Stamps).
The confiscated goods and the suspects have been turned over to the Lanao del Norte Maritime Police Station for proper legal procedures.
The Maritime Group reiterated its commitment to curbing smuggling activities and ensuring compliance with excise tax regulations to protect the government’s revenue and public welfare.
Authorities urge the public to report smuggling activities to the nearest Maritime Police Station or through official hotlines.
