Digos City, Davao del Sur – Police arrested a 34-year-old photojournalist identified only as “Reymart” after allegedly stealing a car belonging to a local businesswoman in Zone 3, Digos City on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2025.

According to the Digos City Police, the victim, a 63-year-old entrepreneur known as “Cristita,” had left her vehicle parked outside her residence with the keys still inside around 10:00 a.m. When she stepped out moments later, the car had already vanished—prompting her to immediately report the incident.

Authorities launched a dragnet operation and within just over an hour, recovered the stolen vehicle along Del Pilar, Tandang Sora Street in Zone 3. The suspect, who reportedly works as a photojournalist, was apprehended on the spot. The vehicle has been placed under police custody for documentation while carnapping charges are being readied against the suspect through inquest proceedings.

The arrest has stirred questions in the community: why would someone in the profession of documenting truth and public events allegedly resort to a crime like carnapping? Was this an act of desperation, financial pressure, or something more?

Residents and colleagues alike are left wondering whether this case reflects a deeper issue—are even those in professions tasked with upholding integrity and accountability vulnerable to crossing the line when pushed by personal struggles? Or does this incident highlight a larger, often unseen reality about the pressures faced by underpaid media workers in the provinces?

As the case moves forward, the community awaits answers—not just on the legal consequences for “Reymart,” but also on what this incident says about trust, responsibility, and the precarious lives of those behind the lens.
