Davao City — The Davao City Government has announced its swift response to extend humanitarian assistance to Cebu following the devastating 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Bogo City and nearby towns on September 30, 2025.
City Information Officer Harvey James Lanticse confirmed that Davao City is closely coordinating with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to ensure efficient and well-coordinated delivery of aid.
Standby units, including Davao City’s 911 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams, medical personnel, and psychosocial support workers, have already been mobilized for possible deployment. Food packs and essential supplies are likewise being prepared for immediate distribution once ground assessments are completed.
“The City Government of Davao stands ready to help. We are finalizing deployment plans in coordination with Cebu authorities to make sure relief and rescue operations reach priority areas at the soonest possible time,” Lanticse said.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO)-Davao also showcased specialized equipment and tools that will be brought by the rescue team to aid in the ongoing rescue and retrieval operations in the hardest-hit communities of Cebu.
CDRRMO Assistant Department Head II Rody Encabo assured that Davao’s deployment to Cebu will not compromise local emergency response within the city. “We made sure that Davao still has sufficient rescuers and resources on standby. This is a testament to the city’s preparedness and genuine commitment to help, regardless of where the need arises,” Encabo said.
The Davao City Government’s prompt action drew commendation from residents and observers, highlighting the city’s long-standing reputation as one of the country’s leaders in disaster preparedness and humanitarian response.
