September 24, 2025 — Residents across Mindanao are advised to brace for possible heavy rains and thunderstorms as Tropical Storm “Opong” (international name: Bualoi) continues to move closer to the Philippine landmass, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 3:00 a.m. today, the center of Opong was estimated at 825 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, carrying maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness reaching up to 80 km/h. The storm is moving west-southwestward at a speed of 20 km/h.

While the storm has yet to directly affect Mindanao, PAGASA reported that the entire region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of localized thunderstorms throughout the day. Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas are cautioned to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides.
