EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported early Tuesday that Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa) continues to maintain its strength while the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is expected to bring rains and thunderstorms across various parts of Mindanao.

As of 3:00 AM, the eye of Super Typhoon Nando was located at 240 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan, based on Aparri Doppler Radar. The cyclone packs maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness reaching up to 230 kph. It is moving westward at 20 kph.

While the typhoon’s core circulation remains far from Mindanao, its enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon will continue to affect the island. PAGASA warned of partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms across Mindanao. Flash floods and landslides are possible during intense thunderstorms, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.
