Davao City — The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will spearhead the third Riverwide Simulation Exercise (Simex) on September 27, 2025, to test community preparedness and response in case of river overflow along the Davao River.
CDRRMO Acting Division Chief Lyndon Ancajas announced on Davao City Disaster Radio that the drill will involve barangays Mandug, Waan, Ma-a, Tigatto, 9-B, 9-A, 10-A, 5-A, 8-A, 2-A, 1-A, Matina Crossing, and Bucana. Ancajas, who also serves as Local Emergency Communications and Response Division (LECRD) – Central 911 Acting Overall Training Supervisor, said the activity will begin at 2 p.m.
“The simulation aims to prepare communities for possible flooding scenarios and evaluate the capacity of responders,” Ancajas said. He noted that coordination meetings with barangay leaders, volunteers, and other government offices have already been conducted in preparation for the exercise.
Ancajas recalled that last year’s simulation in Barangay Toril proved effective, as residents displayed quicker responses during evacuation calls following the drill.
He also reminded residents to stay vigilant amid cloudy weather conditions, citing the recent mini Asik-Asik falls incident and the advisory from PAGASA on the possible onset of La Niña by October.
“Until now, skies remain cloudy, so we should remain alert. When there is a call for evacuation, please evacuate,” Ancajas urged.
The CDRRMO continues to emphasize the importance of readiness as the city braces for potential weather disturbances and their impact on communities near the Davao River.
