Davao City — A tragic accident involving a garbage truck left one person dead and several others injured after the vehicle lost control along Bacaca Road, Barangay 19-B, around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Police reports revealed that the truck, driven by Marix Del Mar Mutia, 42, of Tres De Mayo, Digos City, had stopped to collect garbage and was secured with a wooden chock. However, the chock failed, causing the truck to roll downhill toward the intersection of JP Laurel Avenue and Bacaca Road.
The truck first struck a motorcycle driven by Leneth Abella Llanto, 45, of Awhag Subdivision, Bajada, before hitting a car driven by Joshua Mamac Reyes, 25, of El Rio Subdivision, Bacaca.
The vehicle continued its path of destruction, crashing into a store and a nearby lechon house before finally coming to a halt.
Inside the lechon house, Ainal Cañas Mohamad, 27, of Lupon, Davao Oriental, was fatally struck and later declared dead. Meanwhile, senior citizen Malborin Rada, who was inside the store, sustained injuries.
Both the motorcycle rider and the car driver were also injured and rushed to a nearby hospital by responding Central 911 emergency medical technicians.
Authorities are conducting a full investigation into the incident, while the garbage truck remains impounded pending further inspection.
