CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Police authorities confiscated more than ₱215,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes during an information drive near Cogon Public Market on August 20, 2025.
Personnel from Police Station 2 of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), in coordination with the City Intelligence Unit, discovered assorted smuggled cigarettes openly displayed for sale in the market area. Upon verification, the products were confirmed to be illicit goods, leading to their immediate seizure.
The confiscated items include four master cases, 64 reams, and 54 packs of assorted smuggled cigarette brands with an estimated market value of ₱215,520. Authorities reported that no stall tenants were present at the time of the operation.
The seized products were brought to PS2 COCPO and will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) Regional Director PBGEN Rolindo M. Suguilon commended the vigilance and swift action of the operating units.
“This successful operation demonstrates our continued dedication to protecting the public against the proliferation of smuggled goods. Smuggling not only deprives the government of much-needed revenues but also undermines legitimate businesses. We will not relent in our campaign against these illegal activities,” Suguilon said.
PRO10 reiterated its firm commitment to enforcing the law and safeguarding the welfare of the community through sustained anti-smuggling efforts.
