BUKIDNON, Philippines — A 44-year-old alleged member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities on Wednesday, August 26, at the headquarters of the 1003rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB 10) in Sitio Colon, Barangay Halapitan.

Police authorities identified the man as a Periodic Status Report-listed (PSR-listed) CTG member who allegedly served as a political guide for a unit of Guerrilla Front 89, operating under Sub-Regional Committee 2 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee.
Authorities said the surrender was facilitated through coordination among various police and intelligence units, with the 1003rd Maneuver Company taking the lead in the operation.
Armed surrender
The former CTG member did not surrender alone. He also turned over a homemade caliber 5.56 revolver and four live rounds of ammunition, which were immediately placed under police custody for proper documentation and disposition.
Police said the recovery of the firearm and ammunition formed part of the surrender process and would be subjected to the appropriate procedures in accordance with existing protocols.
The surrender was carried out with the assistance of other police units, intelligence personnel, and members of the Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay (RPSB) in Bukidnon.
According to authorities, the coordination among the participating units was intended to facilitate the individual’s voluntary surrender, ensure the proper processing of his case and information, and secure the firearm and ammunition he turned over.
Undergoing debriefing and profiling
The surrendered individual is now under the custody of the 1003rd Maneuver Company, where he is undergoing custodial debriefing and profiling.
Authorities said the process is being undertaken to establish additional information regarding his background, activities, and possible connections that may be relevant to ongoing security operations.
Police emphasized that further information obtained during the debriefing and profiling would be evaluated through the appropriate procedures before being used in subsequent operations.
The surrender comes amid continuing government efforts to encourage members and supporters of communist armed groups to abandon armed activities and return to the fold of the law.
For security authorities operating in Bukidnon and other parts of Northern Mindanao, the voluntary surrender of armed individuals also provides an opportunity to gather information that could help authorities assess security conditions and prevent possible armed activities.
Authorities said they will continue conducting the necessary validation, documentation, and intelligence processes following the surrender.
The police did not disclose further details regarding the man’s identity or the circumstances that led to his decision to surrender.
As of Wednesday, the individual remains in police custody while the custodial debriefing, profiling, and other appropriate procedures are being conducted.
