GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Residents across Mindanao should continue to brace for wet weather over the next 24 hours as the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), enhanced by Tropical Depression “KIYAPO,” continues to bring widespread rains, thunderstorms, and the threat of flash floods and landslides across the island.
In its Regional Weather Forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) reported that as of 3:00 p.m. Thursday, the center of Tropical Depression “KIYAPO” was estimated at 675 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (17.8°N, 128.1°E).
The tropical depression was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 55 kilometers per hour, and was moving northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour.
Although the weather disturbance remains far from Mindanao, PAGASA said it continues to strengthen the Southwest Monsoon, resulting in persistent rainfall over large portions of the island.
Areas Expected to Experience Occasional Rains
PAGASA said Zamboanga Peninsula, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will experience occasional rains throughout the forecast period due to the enhanced Habagat.
The rest of Mindanao, including Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga Region, and the remaining provinces of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
Weather authorities warned that moderate to at times heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, and localized flooding, particularly in low-lying communities, mountainous areas, and locations with poor drainage.
Marine Conditions Remain Moderate
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the west to southwest will prevail across Mindanao, while coastal waters will range from slight to moderate, with wave heights reaching 1.2 to 2.8 meters.
PAGASA advised fishermen, operators of small sea vessels, and those traveling by sea to remain cautious, especially during thunderstorms, where sudden strong winds and rougher sea conditions may develop.
Regional Weather Outlook
Zamboanga Peninsula
The entire Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, will continue to experience occasional rains with light to moderate southwest to west winds.
Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 27°C and 32°C, while nighttime temperatures may drop to 23°C to 25°C.
Northern Mindanao
Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, and Lanao del Norte will have mostly cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms, except Lanao del Norte, which is forecast to experience occasional rains.
Temperatures across the region will range from 22°C to 31°C.
Davao Region
The provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, and Metro Davao are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
Temperatures are expected to range from 22°C to 32°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN
North Cotabato and South Cotabato will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are expected to receive occasional rains due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.
Forecast temperatures across the region will range from 22°C to 31°C.
Caraga Region
The provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will continue to experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms.
Temperatures will range between 24°C and 32°C.
BARMM
Across BARMM, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Cotabato City, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi will generally experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Maguindanao del Norte will have occasional rains, while temperatures throughout the region are expected to range from 20°C to 31°C.
Public Advised to Stay Alert
With saturated ground conditions already affecting several parts of Mindanao following days of continuous rainfall, PAGASA urged residents living in flood-prone, landslide-prone, and low-lying areas to remain vigilant and closely monitor official weather bulletins and advisories.
Motorists are likewise encouraged to exercise caution on roads with poor visibility or flooding, while local disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to remain on alert for possible weather-related emergencies as the enhanced Southwest Monsoon continues to affect Mindanao.
PAGASA said it will continue to monitor Tropical Depression “KIYAPO” and the Southwest Monsoon for any significant changes that may further influence weather conditions across the country.
