ALICIA, Zamboanga Sibugay (May 1, 2026) — A senior education official was gunned down Thursday evening in a brazen attack that has sent shockwaves across the local education sector, authorities confirmed.

Rey Dalaota Camaingking, 45, a district supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd) and a resident of Nesoricom Village in Ipil, was fatally shot at around 7:35 p.m. on April 30 at Guicam Port in Sitio Guicam, Barangay Dawa-Dawa.
Initial police investigation revealed that Camaingking had just finished work and was walking toward his parked motorcycle, preparing to head home, when he was suddenly approached by two unidentified assailants. Without warning, one of the suspects opened fire, striking the victim in the head with a .45 caliber pistol.
The lone gunshot proved instantly fatal.
Responding personnel from the Alicia Municipal Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and found Camaingking lying on the ground, unresponsive and bathed in his own blood. He was declared dead on the spot.
Witnesses reported that immediately after the shooting, the suspects fled the area aboard a black Honda XRM motorcycle, speeding toward the direction of Barangay Kawayan.
Authorities have launched a manhunt and are currently retracing the suspects’ escape route in an effort to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“We are looking into all possible angles, including work-related matters or personal grudges,” a local investigator said, adding that the motive behind the killing remains undetermined as of this writing.
The killing has sparked outrage and deep sorrow among members of the DepEd community in Zamboanga Sibugay, who described Camaingking as a dedicated and committed public servant.
As of press time, no arrests have been made, and police continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns over gun violence in parts of Mindanao, particularly involving targeted attacks carried out by still-unidentified perpetrators.
