TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte — A joint law enforcement operation led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) resulted in the rescue of a minor and the arrest of her alleged abuser—her own uncle—during an anti-online sexual abuse operation on the evening of April 20, 2026.

Authorities identified the suspect as alias “Win,” 48, single, and a resident of Barangay Visayan Village. He was apprehended in the act during an operation conducted around 7:07 p.m. by the CIDG Davao del Norte Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

The operation was carried out for violations of Republic Act No. 11930 and Republic Act No. 7610—two key laws that criminalize sexual exploitation and abuse of minors, including those facilitated through digital platforms.

A report submitted to Robert AA Morico II revealed that the suspect was caught persuading, coercing, and inducing the minor victim to produce and send nude photos and videos in exchange for money. Investigators disclosed that the abuse had reportedly been ongoing since 2024, escalating recently into online sexual exploitation.

The victim, whose mother is working abroad as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), confided in her aunt about the abuse. The aunt then sought assistance from authorities, prompting the swift rescue and entrapment operation.

Officials said the case highlights the disturbing reality of abuse occurring within households, often involving individuals entrusted with the care of children.

In a statement, Morico underscored the government’s firm stance on protecting children, emphasizing that the State recognizes the vital role of youth in nation-building and is committed to safeguarding their overall well-being. He reiterated that laws such as RA 11930 are designed to combat both online and offline sexual exploitation, ensuring strict penalties for offenders while strengthening prevention and intervention mechanisms.

The CIDG leadership also commended the оператив team, particularly Ariel T Huesca and Rogelio B Pineda Jr., for their immediate and decisive response that led to the victim’s rescue and the suspect’s arrest.

“This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to protect women and children,” CIDG said, adding that law enforcement remains resolute in pursuing justice for victims and holding perpetrators accountable.

The rescued minor is now under the care of the CSWDO and is receiving appropriate intervention and support services.

Authorities assured the public that intensified efforts against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children will continue, particularly amid increasing misuse of information and communications technology to prey on vulnerable minors.

The suspect is currently under police custody and faces charges under the country’s child protection laws.
