DAVAO CITY — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of generally unsettled weather across Mindanao as easterly winds continue to affect the region from Sunday, February 16, until early Monday, February 17, 2026.

In its regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m., PAGASA said easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over most parts of Mindanao. The weather system is expected to trigger intermittent rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

Risk of Flooding and Landslides

Weather authorities cautioned residents, especially those in low-lying and mountainous areas, to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides due to severe thunderstorms.

“Localized flooding and soil erosion may occur in areas experiencing prolonged or intense rainfall,” PAGASA said, urging local disaster risk reduction offices and communities to stay prepared.

Winds and Coastal Conditions

Moderate winds coming from the east to northeast are expected to prevail, particularly in eastern Mindanao. Coastal waters along these areas may experience slight to moderate waves ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 meters.

In other parts of the island, winds will be light to moderate, while sea conditions are forecast to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights of about 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

Fisherfolk and small boat operators are advised to exercise caution, especially during thunderstorms and rougher sea conditions.
