Tampakan, South Cotabato — The lifeless body of a 65-year-old man reported missing last January 17, 2026, was discovered Thursday, January 22, in a creek in the town of Tampakan.

The victim, identified as Roy Layson, a person with disabilities (PWD) from Barangay San Roque, Koronadal City, was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts, and a black hat. Layson, who had difficulty hearing and limited cognitive ability, was known for wandering around his barangay and occasionally neighboring towns, including Marbel.

His sudden disappearance prompted an immediate and extensive search operation. His family even offered a ₱50,000 reward for information leading to his safe return. Unfortunately, the search ended in tragedy with the discovery of his body in a creek in Barangay Ramos, Tampakan.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of Layson’s death and to rule out foul play or accidental circumstances.

Friends and family mourn the loss of a beloved brother, son, and member of the community. In a heartfelt social media post three days before his body was found, his sister described Layson as a gentle soul with simple joys, whose absence brought worry and uncertainty to those who loved him.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who assisted in the search and asks the public to keep Layson in their prayers. Their grief is compounded by the sudden and tragic nature of his passing, and they hope for clarity from the ongoing investigation.

Authorities continue to urge anyone with information regarding Layson’s disappearance or the circumstances of his death to come forward to help bring closure to his grieving family.
