QUEZON, BUKIDNON — A security guard was shot dead by a businessman late Friday night, December 5, 2025, in Purok 10, Barangay Puntian, Quezon, Bukidnon — an area located roughly 20 kilometers away from the Quezon Municipal Police Station, where unstable network signals delayed the initial flow of information.
The victim was identified as Hillery, of legal age, married, a security guard, and a resident of Barangay Laligan, Valencia City.
The suspect, Kim, 51, married, a businessman and resident of Barangay 3, Poblacion, Quezon, voluntarily surrendered to authorities following the incident.
According to an initial police report from the Quezon MPS, the shooting happened while the suspect was conducting a routine visit to his livestock and piggery facility. The victim, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, approached him during the inspection.
Police said the suspect advised the victim to rest since he was off duty. However, the victim reportedly became aggressive and challenged the suspect to a fistfight. The businessman again urged him to calm down and go back to his quarters.
Moments later, the victim ran to his room and returned carrying his issued firearm, which he allegedly pointed at the suspect. Sensing imminent danger, the suspect drew his own short firearm and shot the security guard twice.
The wounded victim was immediately brought to the Quezon Infirmary Rural Health Unit but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Hope Louise T. Semboreo.
The suspect has already turned himself in and is now under the custody of the Quezon Municipal Police Station for proper disposition as investigation continues.
Authorities are conducting further inquiries to determine possible charges and to establish whether self-defense may be considered.
