Opol, Misamis Oriental — In a decisive move against illegal mining, authorities in Opol have seized 155 sacks of suspected mineral ores, estimated to be worth around Php 258,850.00.
The operation was carried out following a report received by the Opol Municipal Police Station (MPS) on December 5, 2025, from Task Force Kalikasan ug Kalinaw regarding the stockpiled mineral sacks in Zone 2, Barangay Limonda.
Responding promptly, the Opol MPS, led by PMAJ Teodoro Panganiban De Oro, inspected the site and found the sacks abandoned, with no identifiable owner. The police documented the scene and secured the area to prevent any unauthorized removal or tampering.
The confiscated mineral ores were transported to the Opol MPS and are scheduled to be turned over to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) for proper investigation and legal disposition.
Authorities are urging the public to report any illegal mining activities, emphasizing that such operations not only violate the law but also pose serious threats to the environment and local communities.
