QUEZON, Bukidnon – A 55-year-old woman was injured after being shot by her neighbor outside her residence in Purok Demokrasya, Barangay Salawagan, Quezon, Bukidnon on Wednesday evening, July 29, prompting police to launch an intensive operation to track down the fleeing suspects.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Alma,” sustained a gunshot wound after she was allegedly attacked by her neighbor, identified as “Aldrin,” and an unidentified accomplice at around 7:00 p.m.
According to the initial police investigation, the victim was standing outside her house while waiting for her husband when the two suspects approached her. Without warning, one of the assailants allegedly drew a firearm and shot her once before immediately fleeing the area.
Authorities said the suspects escaped aboard a white Yamaha XTZ motorcycle and were last seen heading toward Barangay San Roque.
The wounded victim was immediately rushed to the Quezon Health Infirmary Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to the seriousness of her injury, she was later transferred to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center in Cagayan de Oro City for further medical care. Police reported that she is now in stable condition.
Crime scene investigators recovered one spent shell casing believed to have been fired from a .45-caliber pistol, which will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
In response to the shooting, local police immediately activated Oplan Shield and implemented the Containment Ring Plan, a security measure designed to seal possible escape routes and facilitate the immediate arrest of the suspects, who remain at large as of this writing.
Investigators are also working to determine the motive behind the attack, including whether the incident stemmed from a personal dispute between the victim and the alleged gunman, who was identified as her neighbor.
Police are appealing to the public to report any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects. Authorities assured residents that operations will continue until those responsible for the shooting are brought to justice.
