KIDAPAWAN CITY — Tragedy struck just one day after triumph as Jimmy D. Sumampong, a newly licensed professional teacher, passed away following an electrocution incident, barely 24 hours after the release of the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LET) results.
Sumampong, a graduate of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Kidapawan City Campus and a resident of Alim Street, Poblacion, Kidapawan City, had just achieved what many described as one of the sweetest victories of his life — earning the title of Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT) through sheer perseverance, faith, and determination.
Classmates and former instructors remembered Sumampong as hardworking, humble, and deeply dedicated to his studies. Despite financial challenges, he never allowed hardship to derail his dream of becoming a teacher. After classes and during free days, he worked at a computer shop to help support his education — a quiet sacrifice that spoke volumes of his commitment.
According to initial information, Sumampong was electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire, which led to his untimely death. The sudden loss has left his family, friends, and the academic community in shock and grief, turning what should have been days of celebration into mourning.
Social media has since been filled with messages of sorrow and tribute, with many expressing heartbreak that Sumampong was unable to step into the classroom he had long prepared himself for. For many, his story is both inspiring and devastating — a reminder of a dream fulfilled too briefly.
The community continues to offer prayers and condolences to the bereaved family, honoring the life of a young man whose journey was marked by sacrifice, hope, and an unfulfilled promise to educate the next generation.
