COTABATO CITY — The man identified as a suspect in the killing of 21-year-old Mindanao State University–General Santos (MSU–GenSan) graduating student Miyuki Kim has died, confirmed by his family.

The suspect, known as Alyas Inday, was reportedly experiencing severe breathing difficulties while detained at the Mabuhay Police Station lock-up, prompting authorities to rush him to a local hospital.

According to Police Major Ulf Tabucon, head of Mabuhay Police Station, the suspect complained of chest pain and difficulty breathing the previous day, leading officers to transport him for medical attention. Alyas Inday’s condition, however, quickly deteriorated, and he ultimately passed away.

Family members confirmed his death, describing him as already lifeless at the time of notification. His live-in partner revealed that even drinking water had become difficult for him in the hours before his death.

Alyas Inday was among four suspects implicated in the killing of Miyuki Kim. Reports from the suspect’s spouse, Alyas Nene, indicated that Inday had sustained injuries while in police custody, allegedly from being beaten during arrest. Nene said they had no knowledge of his whereabouts for two days before learning of his critical condition.

The circumstances surrounding his death while in police custody are expected to prompt further investigation, raising concerns over detainee treatment and accountability within local law enforcement.

Authorities have yet to release a formal statement regarding the ongoing investigation into the killing of the MSU–GenSan student.
