GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Police are conducting an ongoing investigation after an unidentified man was found dead along the roadside of Camia Street near the National Highway in Barangay Dadiangas East late Thursday night, in an incident believed to be connected to an earlier reported attempted theft and shooting at a nearby establishment.

According to the General Santos City Police Office, the victim’s body was discovered at around 11:40 p.m. Authorities responding to the scene found that the man had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen, which investigators believe caused his death.

Initial police findings indicate that the discovery of the body may be linked to a shooting incident that had been reported earlier to Police Station 4 involving a commercial establishment along the National Highway in Barangay City Heights.

Based on the account of a security guard identified only by the alias “Crisboy,” he was on duty guarding the establishment when he allegedly caught a man attempting to commit theft within the premises.

The security guard claimed he fired his weapon after the suspect allegedly tried to steal from the establishment. Although the suspect managed to flee despite being hit, the guard later learned that an unidentified man had been found dead only a few minutes later along Camia Street.

The guard believes the deceased was the same individual who allegedly attempted to rob the establishment before escaping.

Police have yet to officially confirm the connection between the two incidents and are continuing to gather evidence, review witness statements, and determine the exact sequence of events.

Authorities are likewise working to establish the identity of the deceased, who remained unidentified as of the latest report.

Investigators are expected to examine whether the use of force by the security guard was justified under the circumstances, while also verifying all claims surrounding the alleged attempted theft.

The General Santos City Police Office urged anyone with information that could help identify the victim or shed light on the incident to coordinate with the nearest police station as the investigation continues.

No further details have been released pending the outcome of the police investigation.
