SAN FERNANDO, Bukidnon – A bread vendor was shot dead in Sitio Salumayag, Barangay Halapitan, San Fernando, Bukidnon, on the morning of July 23, 2026, in what authorities described as another violent shooting incident in the municipality.

The San Fernando Municipal Police Station (MPS) confirmed that the attack occurred at around 9:00 a.m., prompting an immediate police response and the launch of an investigation to identify the gunman and determine the motive behind the killing.

The victim, identified only by his alias “Kano,” was reportedly making his usual rounds selling bread when he was suddenly shot by an unidentified suspect.

According to social media posts from residents, including one by Ariel Lanuza Alba, the victim was known in the community as a kind-hearted individual with no known enemies. His death has left relatives, friends, and customers in shock and mourning.

Family Shares Account of Incident

Based on the account provided by the victim’s relatives, the alleged suspect was one of Kano’s regular customers.

The family claimed that the suspect had reportedly argued with his wife shortly before the shooting. After leaving his house, the suspect allegedly encountered the victim while he was selling bread and, without provocation, allegedly turned his anger toward him.

According to the family’s narration, the suspect allegedly shot Kano and even attempted to slit his throat. However, the attack was reportedly interrupted when a motorcycle passed through the area, forcing the suspect to flee before carrying out further harm.

These claims are based solely on the family’s account and have not yet been independently verified by authorities.

Police Continue Investigation

The San Fernando MPS has confirmed only the occurrence of the shooting and emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.

As of this writing, police have not released the identity of the suspect nor confirmed any motive behind the attack. Authorities are gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and conducting follow-up operations to locate the gunman.

Investigators have yet to determine whether the killing was a random act of violence, a personal dispute, or connected to other circumstances.

Community in Mourning

Residents expressed grief over the death of Kano, who reportedly earned a living by selling bread door-to-door and was widely known throughout the community.

His sudden killing has raised concerns among locals over public safety, particularly following another deadly shooting incident in Bukidnon.

Police are urging anyone with information that could help identify or locate the suspect to coordinate with the San Fernando Municipal Police Station to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have assured the public that all available leads are being pursued to bring the perpetrator to justice.
