Davao City, December 15, 2025 — A 21-year-old student was rushed to the hospital after being stabbed in the back during an altercation with a drinking companion in Barangay Mintal, Tugbok District, late Sunday night.
Authorities identified the victim as Rogie Earl Paquin, a resident of Purok 15, Golden Shower, Barangay Mintal. The suspect, 18-year-old Loreto Onofre, a temporary resident of the same area, was immediately apprehended following a hot pursuit operation by local police.
Preliminary investigation revealed that both Paquin and Onofre were drinking when a verbal dispute erupted for an unknown reason. Witnesses said that when the victim stood up, the suspect suddenly stabbed him in the back. The knife remained lodged in Paquin’s back when he was transported to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for urgent medical attention.
Police confirmed that Onofre is now in custody and is facing criminal charges in connection with the stabbing incident. Authorities urged the public to exercise caution when consuming alcohol and warned that disputes could quickly escalate into violence.
