DAVAO CITY — Four individuals were injured after they were allegedly stabbed by a fellow mourner during a wake in Toril District, Davao City, in the early hours of Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The victims were identified only through their aliases “Ellan,” “Manolito,” “Victorio,” and “Marshal,” all of whom sustained stab wounds during the violent incident that unfolded at a wake in Purok 3, Barangay Mulig.
According to a police report, both the victims and the suspect, identified as alias “Ian,” 38 years old, were attending the wake when tension reportedly escalated past 1:00 a.m.
A 21-year-old witness identified as alias “Warren” told authorities that one of the victims, Manolito, tried to calm the situation by asking the suspect to leave the area to avoid trouble. However, the suspect allegedly became angered by the remark.
Minutes later, the suspect suddenly stabbed Manolito, police said. When other mourners attempted to intervene and stop the attack, the suspect allegedly turned on them and stabbed three more individuals.
The four wounded victims were immediately rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for medical treatment. Authorities have yet to disclose the extent of their injuries.
Police operatives later arrested the suspect, who is now under the custody of Toril Police Station 8 while authorities prepare the filing of appropriate charges.
The incident caused panic among mourners and residents in the area, turning what was supposed to be a solemn gathering into a scene of violence and chaos.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances and possible motive behind the stabbing incident.
