CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – Three members of the New People’s Army (NPA) under the Sub-Regional Committee 1 (SRC1) of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) voluntarily surrendered to the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division on November 18, 2025, following intensified military operations in Eastern Misamis Oriental.

The surrender came in the wake of the recent defection of the group’s Secretary, Zaldy Galamiton, also known as Shaggy or Poldo, which reportedly triggered a wave of voluntary turnarounds among SRC1 remnants. The individuals handed over an AR18 rifle and a magazine loaded with seventeen rounds of ammunition.

Initial debriefings revealed that one of the surrenderers, Alvin Regidor Redondo, also known by aliases AKLAS, ETI, HAISEN, NOAH, or KAL, was previously considered a potential successor within the group due to his operational capabilities. The former rebels are now undergoing further custodial debriefing and documentation at a designated facility in Butuan City.

Brigadier General Adolfo B. Espuelas Jr., commander of the 402nd Infantry Brigade, described the surrender as a clear sign of the declining strength and morale of the NPA in the region. He emphasized that the decision to abandon the armed struggle reflects the sustained pressure from focused military operations and the Army’s active engagement with local communities to promote peace and security.

Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., commander of the 4th Infantry Division, lauded the Stingers Brigade for their achievement, noting that the surrenders demonstrate growing trust in government peace initiatives. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to assisting former rebels in reintegrating into society while continuing efforts to foster conditions conducive to lasting peace, development, and stability across Mindanao.
