MINDANAO — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of potential flash floods and landslides across parts of Mindanao today as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to affect the Zamboanga Peninsula and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
According to the Regional Weather Forecast issued at 5:00 AM today, both regions will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and night. PAGASA advised residents, especially those in low-lying and mountainous areas, to remain alert for possible flooding or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao—including Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Caraga—will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought about by localized thunderstorms. Although rainfall may be brief, severe thunderstorms could still lead to flash floods in some areas.
Regional Conditions
Zamboanga Peninsula:
Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City will have cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast to northwest, with slight to moderate coastal seas (0.6 to 1.5 meters). Temperatures will range between 22°C and 33°C.
BARMM:
The provinces of Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Lanao del Sur, and Cotabato City will also experience cloudy skies and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period. Similar wind and sea conditions are expected, with daytime temperatures between 21°C and 34°C.
Northern Mindanao:
Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 20°C to 33°C, and winds will be light to moderate from the northeast to northwest, causing slight to moderate seas.
Davao Region:
Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental will generally experience fair weather in the morning with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. Temperatures will hover between 22°C and 34°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN:
North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani can expect partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest will prevail, with temperatures from 21°C to 31°C.
Caraga Region:
Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will experience similar weather conditions—partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, and temperatures from 23°C to 33°C.
Sea and Wind Conditions
Across Mindanao, light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest will prevail, with slight to moderate seas ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters. Fisherfolk and those using small seacraft are advised to exercise caution due to possible rougher seas during thunderstorms.
Public Advisory
PAGASA reminds the public to stay vigilant, particularly in flood- and landslide-prone areas, as rains may intensify in the afternoon or evening. Residents are urged to monitor updates from PAGASA and local disaster risk reduction offices for weather advisories and warnings.
