GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A construction foreman was killed on the spot while his co-worker, a mason, was wounded and rushed to the hospital after they were shot by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Labangal, General Santos City, on Monday evening, October 20.
The shooting happened at around 6:40 p.m. near a water refilling station in Purok 4, Barrio Blaan, Labangal. The victim was identified as Emilio Campos, 46 years old, a foreman and resident of Toril, Davao del Sur. His companion, known only as “Rolly,” a mason and resident of Surigao del Sur, sustained gunshot wounds and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
According to the initial investigation by Makar Police Station, the two victims were refilling water when a man wearing a green hoodie jacket suddenly approached them and opened fire several times before fleeing toward an unknown direction.
Campos sustained fatal gunshot wounds that caused his instantaneous death, while Rolly was injured but survived the attack. Witnesses said the suspect appeared to have targeted the victims deliberately.
Police Colonel Nicomedes Olaivar Jr., city director of the General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO), said that based on initial assessment, the attack might have been well-planned. However, investigators are still determining the motive behind the shooting.
Authorities have already launched a hot pursuit operation to capture the suspect, while Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) processed the area for possible evidence that could help in the identification of the gunman.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to coordinate with the nearest police station to assist in the ongoing investigation.
