KORONADAL CITY — The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Koronadal has received a proposed resolution seeking to declare controversial social media vlogger Crist Briand as persona non grata for allegedly disrespecting a city landmark and offending religious beliefs.
Filed on September 4, 2025, by Councilor Mark C. Lapidez, the proposal cited Briand’s act of climbing the Koronadal Roundball—considered a vital historical and cultural symbol—for the purpose of generating online content. It also flagged his online references to “halal pork,” which the resolution described as offensive to the Islamic faith and contrary to the city’s commitment to interfaith harmony.
The draft measure stressed that while Briand had issued apologies in the past, his repeated cycle of creating controversial content, followed by public apology and forgiveness, erodes accountability and may encourage similar offenses.
“The declaration of Mr. Crist Briand as persona non grata in the City of Koronadal serves as a formal condemnation of his actions and a clear warning to vloggers, influencers, and similar personalities that acts of disrespect towards Koronadal’s cultural and historical symbols, as well as its religious sensibilities, shall not be tolerated,” the proposed resolution read.
If approved, the declaration would render Briand unwelcome in all official functions, programs, and activities of the city government. Copies would also be distributed to the City Mayor’s Office, all barangays, and concerned agencies for guidance and strict observance.
The Koronadal Roundball, located at the city’s main roundabout, is regarded as a significant emblem of heritage, unity, and progress. Local officials say protecting such landmarks is part of the city’s responsibility to preserve cultural identity and uphold the dignity of its diverse communities.
