ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA — Law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended a former member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) wanted for a double frustrated murder case during a joint police operation on Thursday.

The 905th Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 (RMFB9), led by PSSg Benzhar A. Salih, Intel Operative of the 1st Platoon Base, carried out the service of warrant of arrest under the direct supervision of PCPT Mark Anthony C. Rafols, Officer-in-Charge of the 905th MC, RMFB9.

The operation was spearheaded by the RMFB9 Special Operation Team (SOT) led by PCPT Harris A. Ladja, under the supervision of PLTCOL Parson J. Asadil, OIC of RMFB9. It was conducted in close coordination with the 904th RMFB9, 903rd RMFB9, Provincial Intelligence Unit of Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (PIU ZSBPPO), 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, and RA (R2).

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, a former ASG member operating in Basilan and the Zamboanga Peninsula, has an outstanding criminal case for double frustrated murder under Docket Number 887.

Police officials lauded the coordination among the different operating units that led to the suspect’s arrest, stressing that the operation is part of the continuing effort to maintain peace and security in the region by neutralizing lawless elements.

The arrested individual is now under police custody for proper disposition and legal proceedings.
