Davao City, Philippines — In a move to further enhance passenger experience and terminal services, the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) is set to roll out free public Wi-Fi for commuters starting this July, making it the first bus terminal in the Visayas and Mindanao regions to offer such a service.

DCOTT Manager Aisa Usop announced the upcoming innovation during an interview on the Madayaw Program aired over the city-run Davao City Disaster Radio. She said the free Wi-Fi installation is being fast-tracked with the goal of launching it before the city’s highly anticipated Kadayawan Festival in August.

“We’re going to have public Wi-Fi internet at the DCOTT terminal. Hopefully, by next month, we can start the roll-out. We are really working hard to have it operational before Kadayawan,” Usop said.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology Region XI (DICT-XI), which is providing technical support for the internet installation.

This latest upgrade is part of a broader modernization and public service effort at the terminal. DCOTT is already among the few public terminals nationwide where the use of comfort rooms is free of charge. Recently, an additional set of restrooms was completed at the Southbound Bay for the convenience of passengers.

DCOTT also boasts a state-of-the-art baggage scanner, a rarity among public bus terminals in the country, which enhances both safety and operational efficiency. For added security, the management has increased the number of CCTV cameras to cover previously unmonitored blind spots within the terminal premises.

Usop emphasized that these initiatives are part of DCOTT’s ongoing mission to improve services and provide a secure, comfortable, and passenger-friendly environment.

“DCOTT management continues to innovate and improve our systems to ensure quality public service for all passengers using the terminal,” she said.

With these developments, Davao City continues to set the benchmark for public transport terminal operations across the country.
