February 27, 2025 – Dipolog City takes a step forward in embracing digital innovation with the launch of the “Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP).” Spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in collaboration with the city’s local government, the initiative aims to enhance urban development through technology-driven solutions. The highlight of this program is the introduction of the “#exploreDIPOLOG Mobile Application,” developed under the “Lungsod Solutions Project” by the Department of Geodetic Engineering at UP Diliman, Quezon City.
The official launch event was held at the Museo Dipolog’s second floor, attended by key figures, including City Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy, DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, DOST-IX Regional Director Mr. Martin Wee, DOST Provincial Director Mr. Nuhman M. Aljani, and Lungsod Project Leader & UP Diliman National Engineering Center Deputy Executive Director Dr. Czar Jakiri Sarmiento. Personnel from the collaborating agencies were also present to witness the occasion.

The “#exploreDIPOLOG Mobile Application” is envisioned to play a pivotal role in boosting local tourism, strengthening economic opportunities, and improving accessibility to government services. Funding and Future Developments
During the event, DOST Secretary Solidum handed over a check worth PHP 2 million to Mayor Uy as project funding support from DOST. The mayor expressed his gratitude to the agency, emphasizing the project’s significance in driving Dipolog City’s digital transformation.
DOST also announced that the development of the mobile application is still in progress, with an ongoing road-mapping process. It is expected to take over a year before the app becomes fully operational and available to the public.

In his speech, Secretary Solidum underscored the importance of Dipolog City being chosen as one of the pilot areas for the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program.
