ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE — The 97th Infantry (KALASAGLAHI) Battalion of the Philippine Army celebrated its 8th Founding Anniversary on June 15, 2026, highlighting eight years of dedicated service, operational accomplishments, and strong partnerships that have contributed to peace, security, and development in Zamboanga del Norte.



Carrying the theme, “Walong Taon ng Serbisyong may Tapang at Dangal para sa Kapayapaan,” the anniversary celebration recognized the Battalion’s achievements while honoring military personnel and stakeholders whose commitment and support have been instrumental in the successful fulfillment of its mission.
The commemorative program was attended by military officials, government leaders, law enforcement representatives, and civilian partners, underscoring the collaborative effort that has strengthened peacebuilding initiatives across the province.
Representing Major General Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., Commander of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, Philippine Army, Brigadier General William George S. Cordova, Assistant Division Commander of the 1st Infantry Division, served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the event.
Also present was Vice Governor Julius C. Napigquit, representing Governor Darel Dexter T. Uy. His participation highlighted the enduring partnership between the military, local government units, law enforcement agencies, and community stakeholders in promoting security and sustainable development throughout the province.
The celebration gathered officers and enlisted personnel of the Battalion, former Battalion Commanders, commanders of various units under the 1st Infantry Division, representatives from law enforcement agencies, local government officials, and civilian stakeholders who have worked alongside the military in advancing peace and stability in the region.
A major highlight of the anniversary was the recognition of outstanding soldiers and stakeholders whose dedication and contributions significantly aided the Battalion in accomplishing its mandate.
Military personnel who demonstrated exceptional performance, commitment to duty, and exemplary service were awarded the Military Merit Medal and Military Civic Action Medal, recognizing their valuable role in supporting the Battalion’s operations and community engagement efforts.
Meanwhile, stakeholders from various sectors received Plaques of Recognition and Appreciation in acknowledgment of their continued cooperation and partnership with the Battalion. The awards reflected the Army’s recognition that maintaining peace and security requires a collective effort involving both government institutions and local communities.
The program also showcased the Battalion’s major milestones and achievements over the past eight years, highlighting its contributions to safeguarding communities, supporting development initiatives, and strengthening peace and order efforts across Zamboanga del Norte.
In his message, Brigadier General Cordova conveyed Major General Barroquillo’s commendation to the officers, enlisted personnel, and stakeholders of the 97th Infantry Battalion for their unwavering dedication and steadfast commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The Division Commander’s message emphasized the importance of sustaining the strong partnerships forged among government agencies, local government units, law enforcement organizations, and community stakeholders. He stressed that building upon the gains achieved through collaborative efforts remains essential in pursuing lasting peace, stability, and development.
As it celebrates eight years of service, the 97th Infantry (KALASAGLAHI) Battalion reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with communities and stakeholders while continuing its mission of protecting the people and supporting peace and development initiatives in Zamboanga del Norte.
