Maguindanao del Norte—Contrary to his earlier statements expressing willingness to withdraw from the gubernatorial race in order to maintain the unity of the Family Alliance, former TESDA Secretary Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu has reaffirmed his decision to push through with his candidacy. The Family Alliance includes both his own family and that of his political rival, Mayor Tucao Mastura.
Mangudadatu made this declaration during a Medical Outreach Program held in Barangay Bayanga Sur, Matanog, on Thursday.
Despite acknowledging the difficulty of the decision, he emphasized his determination to continue his campaign, stressing that he would not withdraw and would remain steadfast in his candidacy. He asserted that he is committed to the decision agreed upon by his family.
“It is very painful because I was serving as TESDA Secretary and I had to step down to run, only to find myself facing my own relatives in the race,” Mangudadatu stated.
He also cited an alleged agreement within their family regarding the division of leadership roles in One Maguindanao. According to this supposed arrangement, the governorship would be assigned to the Sinsuat family, while the Mastura family would secure positions as congressman and vice governor.
Mangudadatu insisted that Mastura should honor their agreement, particularly since it was based on family ties and mutual understanding.
“If we are truly their kin, they should uphold what was agreed upon,” he said.
As the election approaches, the political landscape in Maguindanao del Norte continues to intensify, with the competing parties firm in their respective positions.
