Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte – Authorities apprehended a 29-year-old unemployed man for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in connection with COMELEC Resolution No. 11067. The arrest took place at around 1:30 PM on February 8, 2025, in Barangay Makir.
According to reports, members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) were conducting a routine patrol when they encountered the suspect. The man, who appeared to be intoxicated, was causing a public disturbance. Upon inspecting his bag, authorities discovered an improvised firearm with no serial number, which was in plain view, along with a loaded round in the chamber.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, BPAT members immediately coordinated with the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station (DOS MPS) to ensure the proper handling of the case. The suspect was taken into custody, and an investigation was launched to determine further legal actions.
Swift Law Enforcement Response
Police Colonel Eleuterio M. Ricardo Jr., Officer-in-Charge of DOS MPS, commended the quick response of BPAT and the DOS MPS team.
“This incident highlights the importance of proactive policing and community vigilance. The presence of unauthorized firearms poses a serious threat to public safety, and we will continue to enforce the law without compromise,” Ricardo stated.
Authorities confirmed that the confiscated firearm has been sent to the Regional Forensic Unit BAR (RFU BAR) for ballistic examination. Additionally, a request for verification has been submitted to the Regional Civil Security Unit BAR (RCSU BAR) to determine if the suspect had any legal claims to firearm ownership.

A case is currently being prepared against the suspect, reinforcing law enforcement’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring strict regulation of firearms. The authorities reiterated their warning against illegal possession of weapons, especially with the ongoing election period, where gun bans are strictly enforced.
