Cotabato, Philippines – A former barangay chairman and his companion were killed in an ambush on Monday afternoon, February 10, in Barangay Kayaga, Kabacan, Cotabato.
The victims were identified as Armando Lu Sr., also known as Baby Lu, the former Barangay Chairman of Ugalingan, Carmen, Cotabato, and the current Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Rural Transit Bus. His partner, known only by the alias Lyn, was also killed in the attack.
According to Kabacan Chief of Police Lieutenant Colonel John Miridel Calinga, the victims were traveling in a Toyota Fortuner with plate number AAQ-7010 along the national highway when unidentified gunmen suddenly opened fire on them. The assailants, who were aboard two motorcycles, swiftly fled the scene after the attack.
Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival.
The family of the former barangay official believes the ambush was not related to his past political career, as he had long been out of public office. Instead, they suspect that the attack may be linked to his current role as the OIC of Rural Transit Bus.
Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the case to determine the motive behind the attack and identify the perpetrators.
