Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay – In a decisive intelligence-driven operation on February 7, 2025, law enforcement agencies successfully intercepted a large shipment of smuggled cigarettes valued at Php 2,349,300.00. The joint operation, led by the Provincial Intelligence Unit-Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (PIU-ZSBPPO), in collaboration with Malangas Municipal Police Station (MPS), 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Maritime Police, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Zamboanga Sibugay, and the Bureau of Customs Pagadian City Office, took place in Purok Bagong Silang, Barangay Looc Tuburan, Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Authorities seized a total of 41 master cases of assorted smuggled cigarettes. Additionally, two motorized pump boats, estimated to be worth Php 60,000.00, were confiscated during the operation.
Two adult males, both operators of the seized pump boats, were apprehended and are currently in the custody of Malangas MPS for proper legal disposition.
PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director of ZSBPPO, reaffirmed the province’s firm stance against smuggling and illegal trade. “We are undeterred in our campaign against smuggling that threatens our local economy. I commend the dedication of all units involved for their tireless efforts. We urge everyone to report any information that will help us curb smuggling in the province,” he stated.
The successful operation highlights the continued vigilance of authorities in combatting illicit activities that undermine lawful commerce and economic stability. Further investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling network.
