Police operatives from the Santiago Municipal Police Station successfully seized a loose firearm and ammunition from a suspect during a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Curva, Santiago, Agusan del Norte.
PCOL April Mark C. Young, Provincial Director of the Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office (ADNPPO), disclosed that Santiago MPS received a tip-off from a confidential informant about an armed individual riding a black and white XRM Honda 125 with plate number SY 5659. The suspect, carrying a black backpack, was spotted in Barangay San Isidro, Santiago, Agusan del Norte.
Responding police officers proceeded to the location and intercepted the suspect while traveling through Barangay Curva. Identified as alias “Sonny,” a 38-year-old male small-scale miner and resident of Purok 5, Barangay San Isidro, he was flagged down and apprehended.
Seized Items:
- One (1) unit of caliber .45 sub-machine gun with serial number 367457
- Three (3) aluminum magazines loaded with sixty (60) live rounds of ammunition
- One (1) gray maong sling bag
- One (1) black backpack
Barangay officials from Barangay Curva served as witnesses during the operation. The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights in a language he understood and is currently under police custody at the Santiago Municipal Police Station. Charges will be filed against him for violating Republic Act 10591, which governs firearm regulations, and Section 261(q) of the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines.
“As election day approaches, we assure the public that Agusan del Norte PPO will intensify security measures, ramp up operations, and increase checkpoints across the province,” PCOL Young stated. “We are stepping up. Expect more checkpoints, more police visibility, and swift action against those who defy the law. The safety of our people is non-negotiable.”
