A joint operation by the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd PMFC) and the Tungawan Municipal Police Station (MPS) successfully intercepted over Php 300,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes during a checkpoint at the Border Control Point in San Pedro, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The operation took place at 11:50 AM when authorities stopped a black Euro 125 tricycle, bearing a temporary plate number 464 JZR, traveling from Zamboanga City. Upon inspection, officers discovered four brown boxes filled with reams of cigarettes in the vehicle.

The driver, an adult male, failed to provide legal documentation for the shipment. Consequently, he was arrested, and the 332 reams of cigarettes, valued at Php 380,437.00 based on the Customs Standard Price, were confiscated. Authorities suspect the cigarettes to be smuggled.

Provincial Director PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo praised the coordinated efforts of the involved units, stating:
“This operation serves as a clear message to all those who engage in smuggling that law enforcement agencies are vigilant and will not tolerate such illegal behavior. We will continue to strengthen border control measures and collaborate with other agencies to disrupt and dismantle smuggling operations. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against illegal trade and ensure the safety and security of our province.”

This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to combating smuggling and protecting the local economy from the negative impacts of illegal trade.
