Zamboanga City, Philippines – Mayor John Dalipe has lauded PSMS Ryan Mariano of the Special Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) for his courageous actions during a covert operation in Barangay Ayala on December 31, just hours before the New Year. The operation neutralized two criminal elements, underscoring the city’s ongoing commitment to public safety.

“As your mayor and on behalf of the city government of Zamboanga, I would like to extend our utmost gratitude for your sincere commitment to safeguarding the lives of the Zamboangueño community,” Mayor Dalipe said during the flag-raising ceremony at City Hall on Monday morning, January 6.

The mayor announced that PSMS Mariano would receive a reward of PHP 100,000 for his bravery. According to the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), the operation unfolded in front of Ayala Parish Church, where Mariano engaged in a gunfight with two armed suspects on a motorcycle. Despite sustaining serious gunshot wounds, Mariano valiantly continued the confrontation, resulting in the immediate death of one suspect. The second suspect, critically injured, was declared dead on arrival at Brent Hospital.

Mayor Dalipe also extended his gratitude to Police Stations 6, 9, and 10, as well as the Special Investigations Unit, for successfully apprehending suspects involved in separate shooting incidents. He pledged rewards for the respective police commanders as a token of appreciation and motivation for their steadfast dedication to maintaining peace in the city.

The mayor further praised Acting City Police Director PCol Kimberly Molitas for her leadership in achieving these milestones. He also expressed his satisfaction with the orderly and peaceful celebration of Christmas and New Year in Zamboanga City.

“Mientras ta celebra quita el tiempo de Pascua y Año Nuevo junto con el diaton maga familia, ya continua trabaja el miembros del diaton policia local para asegura que bien pacifico el diaton celebracion,” Dalipe said, acknowledging the tireless efforts of law enforcement during the festive season.

The recognition of PSMS Mariano and the collective efforts of the ZCPO reflect the city’s commitment to rewarding heroism and fostering a culture of safety and security among its residents.
