ZAMBOANGA CITY, January 24, 2025 – Mayor John Dalipe has signed four landmark ordinances aimed at strengthening public welfare, fostering inclusivity, and boosting local development in Zamboanga City.
Among the ordinances signed is Ordinance 695, which institutionalizes a drug-free workplace policy in the city’s local government offices. The measure ensures that public employees adhere to a strict drug-free policy, with funding allocated for its implementation.
Another significant development is the signing of Ordinance 696, which establishes the Zamboanga City Muslim Cemetery. This initiative addresses a long-standing need for a dedicated burial site for Muslim residents, creating a Muslim Cemetery section and appropriating funds to ensure its proper establishment and maintenance.
In the presence of Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja, Councilor El King Omaga, and representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF-9), and other agencies, Mayor Dalipe highlighted the importance of inclusivity and respect for cultural diversity in the city.
Additionally, Mayor Dalipe signed two more ordinances:
- Ordinance 693, which lays out a comprehensive policy on the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases. This measure also creates the City Anti-Vector Borne Diseases Task Force to address public health threats such as dengue and malaria.
- Ordinance 694, which institutionalizes the Livelihood Assistance for Barangay Micro and Small Business Enterprises. The ordinance aims to provide financial and technical support to small businesses, fostering economic growth at the grassroots level.
These ordinances were declared urgent by the mayor and swiftly enacted by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on January 8, 2025.
Mayor Dalipe expressed gratitude to the City Council, led by Vice Mayor Pareja, for their unwavering support and collaboration. “These measures reflect our collective commitment to addressing public interest and advancing the welfare of Zamboangueños,” the mayor said.
The signing of these ordinances signals the city government’s proactive approach to addressing pressing social, economic, and health-related challenges while promoting harmony and development in Zamboanga City.
