Montevista, Davao de Oro – Two siblings were killed, and another remains in critical condition following a hacking incident in Purok 9-Sitio Magtaya, Barangay Mayaon, Montevista, on the evening of December 8, 2024.

The victims were identified as Darwin and Sandy Taña, while their brother, Joseph Taña, is currently being treated in the hospital. All three are residents of Purok 2, Barangay Pisaan, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

The suspect was identified as Jonathan Udio Hindoy, a resident of the area where the attack occurred.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the victims were returning home after a social gathering when they were suddenly attacked by Hindoy. The suspect used a bladed weapon, inflicting fatal wounds on Darwin and Sandy and injuring Joseph.

Joseph, in an attempt to defend his brothers, struck the suspect with a piece of wood. However, the suspect retaliated, wounding Joseph in the chest before fleeing the scene.

Both the suspect and Joseph were later hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the incident. Hindoy is now under police custody.

Families Seek Justice

The Taña family, who had traveled to Montevista for an agricultural operation, is calling for justice. Relatives of the victims are currently coordinating with the Municipal Government for assistance in retrieving the bodies of Darwin and Sandy and transporting them back to San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the reasons behind Hindoy’s actions and the charges he will face.

The violent incident has shocked the local community, with neighbors and relatives demanding accountability. “Justice for the Taña siblings!” has become the rallying cry of those mourning the loss of Darwin and Sandy.

Authorities have urged witnesses to come forward with any information that could help resolve the case swiftly.
