DIGOS CITY — A 41-year-old man was killed after he was allegedly hacked while walking to work early Wednesday morning, August 12, in Purok 1, Palo 5, Kapatagan, Digos City.
The Digos City Police Station said it received a telephone call from a concerned citizen at around 5:30 a.m. reporting the hacking incident in the area. Responding personnel immediately proceeded to the reported location and conducted an initial investigation.
According to the police report, the victim, identified as alias “LEX,” 41, married, a harvester, and a resident of Kapatagan, was walking toward Dizon Farm at around 4:30 a.m. to report for work when he was allegedly attacked by the suspect.
Police said the victim sustained multiple injuries to his head and other parts of his body as a result of the attack. The injuries proved fatal.
The suspect was identified by police as Noel A. Decap, 47, married, also a harvester, and a resident of Purok Pag-asa 1, Kapatagan, Digos City.
Responding police personnel subsequently arrested Decap in connection with the incident. Police said he was informed of his constitutional rights and is currently under the custody of the Digos City Police Station pending appropriate legal proceedings and disposition.
The responding team was composed of PSsg Charlene V. Estrella, duty investigator, together with PSsg Robenard Mendel B. Alcoseba and PSsg Ranel R. Paracullos of the Kapatagan Tourist Police.
Police said the motive behind the attack remains undetermined and is still the subject of investigation. Authorities are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including what may have led to the confrontation and the circumstances immediately preceding the fatal attack.
The Digos City Police Station is under the leadership of PLTCOL Norman L. Yparraguirre, Chief of Police.
The police report did not state whether the suspect had entered a plea or whether formal charges had already been filed. As the investigation and legal proceedings continue, the allegations against Decap remain subject to due process and the presumption of innocence.
