The Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, under the leadership of Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. and Vice Governor Mohammad Khalid Rakiin Adiong, has taken significant strides to empower communities through cooperative development and sustainable agriculture initiatives.
On December 3, 2024, the Provincial Cooperative Office (PCO), in partnership with the Provincial Gender and Development Office (PGAD), successfully conducted a Pre-Registration Seminar in Tugaya aimed at empowering women’s organizations aspiring to register as cooperatives. The seminar provided practical guidance to women’s groups engaged in various products, equipping them with the tools needed to formalize their organizations.
During the event, Maruhom relayed Governor Alonto’s message, highlighting the administration’s steadfast support for grassroots women’s initiatives. Atty. Faisal Cali, Head of the Provincial Legal Services Office, delivered an inspirational speech commending the participants’ dedication to enhancing their communities through cooperative enterprises.
The seminar featured expert speakers, including representatives from the Cooperative and Small Enterprise Authority (CSEA) who outlined registration requirements. Cooperative Consultant Mohammad P. Pangandaman presented an insightful discussion on the concepts and philosophies of cooperatives, underscoring their critical role in promoting collective growth and economic stability.
In a related initiative, the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office, led by Mohammad Rajiv Naga Radia, distributed Tilapia fingerlings and fish feeds to fisherfolk on December 2, 2024. Held at the Capitol Tennis Court in Marawi City, the program aims to bolster the local aquaculture sector and contribute to the province’s food security goals.
Radia encouraged the beneficiaries to nurture the fingerlings into thriving fish stocks, emphasizing the broader impact of their success on community prosperity. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to empower fisherfolk and position aquaculture as a key contributor to Lanao del Sur’s economic growth.
These coordinated efforts by the Provincial Government showcase its commitment to advancing grassroots development and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring that the people of Lanao del Sur have opportunities to thrive collectively.
