Cotabato City, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is in mourning following the tragic death of Police Master Sergeant John Manuel V. Bongcawil, a committed public servant and peacekeeper, who was fatally shot on December 1, 2024.
PMSg Bongcawil was conducting casing and surveillance operations against a wanted individual at the City Mall parking area in Barangay Rosary Heights 7, Cotabato City, when he was gunned down in what authorities have described as a ruthless attack.
The untimely loss has left his family, including his children, devastated and has deprived the community of a dedicated officer who worked tirelessly to ensure peace and security.
PBGEN Romeo Juan Macapaz, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR), condemned the crime in the strongest terms. “The PNP will not rest until justice is served,” he said. “We owe it to PMSg Bongcawil’s grieving family, his children, and the entire community to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act face the full force of the law.”
PBGEN Macapaz has directed the Cotabato City Police Office to prioritize the investigation, urging authorities to swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The Regional Director also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of PRO BAR’s unwavering commitment to justice.
The PNP is calling on the public to support the investigation by providing any information that could lead to the resolution of the case. “We cannot do this alone. The public’s cooperation is crucial in ensuring that justice is served swiftly,” PBGEN Macapaz emphasized.
