The City Government of Davao, in collaboration with the Department of Education-Davao City Division, officially unveiled the Dabawenyo DCplinado modules on Tuesday, December 10, at Teodoro L. Palma Gil Elementary School. The initiative aims to instill discipline and values among the city’s youth by integrating the program into the school curriculum.
Pursuant to Ordinance No. 0552-24, the Dabawenyo DCplinado program will be incorporated into Values Education (VE), Araling Panlipunan, Makabayan, and Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) subjects. This integration will commence in January 2025, targeting Grade 6 and Grade 10 students as the initial beneficiaries.
The modules cover a broad spectrum of topics designed to nurture well-rounded individuals. These include:
- Civic Responsibility and Community Engagement
- Respect for Laws and Regulations
- Cultural Sensitivity and Gender Equality
- Personal Discipline and Ethical Behavior
- Information and Digital Ethics
- Environmental Stewardship
- Culture of Security
- Financial Literacy
The launch ceremony saw the attendance of prominent city government officials, members of the city council, DepEd representatives, educators, and students. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of holistic education in shaping responsible citizens who contribute positively to their communities.
Speaking at the event, a representative from the city government highlighted the significance of the program, stating, “The Dabawenyo DCplinado program is not just an educational initiative but a commitment to molding a generation that embodies discipline, ethical behavior, and civic responsibility.”
The Department of Education-Davao City Division expressed its support for the program, emphasizing its alignment with the goals of the K-12 curriculum. Teachers and students alike are optimistic about the positive impact the modules will bring to their educational experience and personal development.
As the program rolls out in January 2025, it is expected to set a benchmark for integrating values education into local curriculums, paving the way for other regions to adopt similar initiatives.
