October 29, 2024 — In an inspiring effort to educate and empower the youth of the Bangsamoro region, the United Voices for Peace Network (UVPN) hosted a Voters’ Education session at the gymnasium of Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College (TRAC). The event brought together over 700 young scholars, faculty members, staff, and community representatives from various island municipalities across Tawi-Tawi. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the Bangsamoro Electoral Code (BEC) and encourage informed participation in the upcoming 2025 Parliamentary elections.

The session, which highlighted key elements of the BEC, offered a comprehensive overview of the electoral process, emphasizing voting rights and the pivotal role young voters play in shaping the region’s future. Students engaged in discussions on the significance of informed voting, while faculty members reaffirmed TRAC’s commitment to nurturing responsible and knowledgeable citizens. The interactive format enabled participants to ask questions and share perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of their civic duties and the potential impact of their voices on their communities.
This initiative is part of the Activate Young Bangsamoro Project 4, a voter education campaign supported by The Asia Foundation (TAF) and the British Embassy Manila. The project seeks to increase Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) efforts among youth in marginalized and conflict-affected areas, including Basilan, the Special Geographic Area (SGA), and Tawi-Tawi. By extending the campaign’s reach, the project aims to cultivate a politically aware and active youth electorate for the 2025 Parliamentary elections.
Through this Voters’ Education session, UVPN reaffirms its dedication to building an informed and engaged youth population, one equipped to contribute to a democratic and peaceful future for the Bangsamoro region.
