Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao del Sur – November 15, 2024
In a coordinated operation, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) – BARMM, in partnership with the Datu Anggal Municipal Police Station, the 12th Mechanized Company of the 1st Mechanized Battalion, and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Nunangan, successfully intercepted an attempt to transport approximately 50 grams of shabu en route to Barangay Nunangan, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao del Sur.
The Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) played a pivotal role in the seizure, apprehending the courier, identified as Kenny Boy Canasa, also known as “Taba,” a resident of Barangay Harada-Butai, Padada, Davao del Sur. The confiscated drugs, valued at ₱340,000, along with identification cards, have been turned over to the authorities.
Canasa is currently detained at the PDEA-BARMM Jail Facility and faces inquest proceedings for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165).
Hon. Vice Governor Nathaniel Midtimbang lauded the collaborative efforts, stating, “The success of this seizure of illegal drugs is part of the Local Government Units’ intensified efforts to interdict drug couriers passing through our area of responsibility in close collaboration with the law enforcement authorities from the PDEA, PNP, and AFP in sustaining the gains achieved through the Barangay Drug Clearing Program.”
Director Gil Cesario Castro, Regional Director of PDEA-BARMM, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing, “I commend the Local Government Unit and the Barangay Council for the efforts made in maintaining peace and order and a drug-free community. We owe this success to the active participation and support of our local counterparts from the LGUs in the national anti-drug campaign.”
This operation underscores the importance of continued collaboration between local government units, law enforcement, and community stakeholders in ensuring a drug-free and peaceful region.
