The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed two significant infrastructure projects in Mindanao, enhancing transportation networks and supporting local economies in Cotabato and Sarangani provinces.
In Barangay Dungo-an, M’lang, Cotabato, the DPWH Cotabato 3rd District Engineering Office successfully completed the Dungo-an Bridge on March 27, 2024. The P49.1-million project was funded under the Regular Infrastructure CY 2023 program and serves as a vital link for the community. The bridge provides safer and more reliable travel options, particularly during heavy rains and floods, which previously hindered transportation.
The new bridge has greatly benefited farmers and traders, allowing them to transport agricultural products, livestock, and goods more efficiently. This smoother flow of goods and services between rural and urban areas is expected to spur economic growth and improve the quality of life for Barangay Dungo-an residents.
Meanwhile, in Upper Mainit, Malungon, Sarangani, the DPWH Sarangani District Engineering Office completed a P4.9-million road concreting project in July 2024. The 321-meter road, funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024, provides safer and more efficient transportation for residents and motorists, particularly benefiting farmers who can now travel more easily between barangays.
District Engineer Rey R. Francisco emphasized the socio-economic impact of the project, highlighting that the improved road infrastructure supports various economic activities in this rural area. Engr. Edward Carillo, Construction Chief of the Sarangani District Engineering Office, echoed this sentiment, noting that the project significantly enhances connectivity and access for the local community.
These projects underscore the DPWH’s dedication to sustainable development and infrastructure improvement in rural areas, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and improving living standards through strategic public investments.
