Zamboanga Sibugay Province — October 27, 2024
In a determined move to curb smuggling, the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO) launched a series of operations over the weekend, leading to substantial seizures and arrests across the province. The successful campaign, focused on preventing the illegal distribution of smuggled goods, culminated in the confiscation of PHP 988,998 worth of assorted cigarettes and the apprehension of five individuals involved in the trade.
The Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU-ZSB), the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd PMFC), and the Ipil Municipal Police Station (Ipil MPS) spearheaded the operations. According to Provincial Director PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, the commitment of these units played a critical role in the operation’s success.
“These arrests and confiscations send a strong message that smuggling will not be tolerated in Zamboanga Sibugay,” PCOL Dasugo remarked, emphasizing the ZSBPPO’s focus on reinforcing the rule of law and protecting the local economy from the adverse effects of illicit trade. He commended the law enforcement units involved, noting the diligence and efficiency they demonstrated.
PCOL Dasugo also highlighted the essential role of community engagement in fighting smuggling, urging residents to support local authorities by reporting any suspicious activities. He reminded the public of the negative impact smuggled cigarettes and other contraband have on the province’s economy and the well-being of its residents. “Our commitment to curb smuggling extends beyond law enforcement,” he stated. “It requires the cooperation of the entire community to protect our local economy and ensure a fair and secure economic environment for all.”
The recent operation is part of ZSBPPO’s ongoing efforts to address smuggling across Zamboanga Sibugay, and authorities promise continued vigilance. The arrested individuals will face legal charges related to smuggling, and ZSBPPO aims to intensify efforts to dismantle smuggling networks operating within and around the region.
