BARMM Chief Minister Denounces False Corruption Allegations Against Presidential Aide

Cotabato City, October 8, 2024 – Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) issued a strong statement today, vehemently denying recent allegations of corruption within the Bangsamoro Government. The accusations, which have targeted Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo, Jr., were labeled by the Chief Minister as false, malicious, and defamatory.

In his official statement, Chief Minister Ebrahim condemned the baseless claims, describing them as part of an effort to discredit both the Bangsamoro Government and its officials ahead of the region’s first parliamentary elections. He asserted that the accusations are entirely fabricated and lack any form of evidence.

“These libelous claims are entirely fabricated and are filled with ill intent,” said Ebrahim, stressing that the Bangsamoro Government is actively considering legal action against those spreading such defamatory statements.

The Chief Minister called on the public to exercise caution during the election period, urging them to avoid engaging in personal attacks or spreading misinformation. “As the election period nears, we call on everyone not only to veer away from personal attacks and false accusations but also to be careful of malicious statements driven by selfish interest,” he stated.

With the region preparing for its historic first parliamentary elections, Ebrahim emphasized the importance of focusing on maintaining peace, integrity, and credibility throughout the electoral process. He encouraged the Bangsamoro people to uphold their duty to serve the region with sincerity and good intentions.

The Bangsamoro Government’s statement comes amid heightened political activity in the lead-up to the elections, with the Chief Minister reiterating the need for all parties to work together for a smooth and peaceful democratic exercise.

“We must continue to serve the Bangsamoro with pure hearts and sincere intentions,” he concluded.

The statement underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability while rejecting any efforts to undermine its reputation as it navigates the challenges of its first parliamentary elections.
